OCT Exam FAQ
What Does OCT Stand For?
OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography. It is a non-invasive eye exam of the Retina (the back of your eye) and Optic Nerve (the nerve that connects your eye to your brain).
Does The OCT Eye Exam Hurt?
If My Eyes Feel Healthy, Is a Retinal Scan Eye Exam Still Worth Doing?
Yes, many conditions can be caught before a patient feels visual symptoms. Being proactive, rather than reactive, will allow us to preserve the fragile gift of sight.
How Long Does an OCT Eye Exam Take?
How Is This Different From a Picture?
The Wellness Exam will do both a picture and an OCT scan of the most important structures of the back of your eye. The picture will allow the doctor to see the back of the eye. The OCT will evaluate deeper layers, not visible during routine examinations.
Can Kids Under 18 Be Scanned?
Yes, children can be scanned with this technology. Although, there are no normative databases for children to determine the risk for glaucoma.
